Paying, cancelling and the sliding scale
The rules are short, and they are the same for every therapist.
No HST
Psychotherapy from a Registered Psychotherapist is exempt from GST/HST, so the fee you see is the fee you pay.
Canada Revenue Agency noticeSliding scale
Each therapist keeps two sliding scale spots a month, from $80 a session. Ask about them on your first call. We do not ask for proof of income.
Cancelling
Give us 24 hours' notice to cancel or move a session and there is no charge. With less notice we charge the full fee, unless you are ill or there is an emergency.
Paying
We take credit and debit cards through our booking system after each session. We do not bill health plans directly. You send the receipt to your plan.
How health plan coverage works
Many extended health plans in Ontario cover psychotherapy with a Registered Psychotherapist up to a yearly maximum. Some pay a share of each session, such as 80%. Some also cap what they pay for each visit.
Your plan booklet may list it under psychotherapy, mental health or paramedical services. If it is not clear, call the number on your benefits card and ask these three questions.
- Do you cover a Registered Psychotherapist?Ask about qualifying registrants too, if you want to see Wren.
- What is my yearly maximum?Ask whether it is shared with other services, such as massage.
- Do I need a doctor's referral? Most plans do not, but some still ask for one.
What your receipt shows
We email a receipt after each session. It has the five details most extended health plans ask for.
- Your therapist's full nameAs it appears on the CRPO public register.
- Their titleRegistered Psychotherapist, or Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying).
- Their registration numberYour plan uses it to check the therapist is registered.
- The date of the sessionOne receipt for each session, never a monthly total.
- The fee, with no HSTPsychotherapy is exempt from GST/HST.
Questions about fees
If cost is what stops you from booking, ask about the sliding scale on your first call.
Is therapy covered by my health plan?
Many extended health plans cover sessions with a Registered Psychotherapist. Check your plan's yearly maximum and whether it covers psychotherapy before your first session.
Do you charge HST?
No. Psychotherapy services from Registered Psychotherapists are exempt from GST/HST.
Can I use my spouse's health plan too?
Often, yes. Many people claim first on their own plan and send the rest to a spouse's plan. Ask each insurer how they coordinate benefits.
Do plans cover sessions with a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)?
Some do and some do not. Check with your plan before you book with Wren. If yours does not, you can still book with Wren at the lower fee and pay yourself.
