The brief
This family needed a second living room for three teenagers. The basement was dry but cold, with bare concrete and ducts running under the joists.
What we did
- A moisture check came back clean, so we went straight to rigid insulation and framing.
- We moved two duct runs to one side and boxed them tightly. That kept the full ceiling height over the main seating area.
- A built-in oak media wall and a wet bar with a bar fridge finish the room. Vinyl plank floors sit on an insulated subfloor.
The result
The basement is now the warmest room in the house in winter. We finished a week ahead of schedule.
