The brief

The family has four kids and two dogs. The side door opened straight into the kitchen, and so did the snow.

What we did

  1. We built a small addition off the side of the house on new footings.
  2. Floor to ceiling cabinets have a cubby, hooks and a drawer for each person.
  3. The heated slate-look tile floor dries boots overnight. A drain in the floor handles meltwater.

The result

Snow and salt now stop at the mudroom. The kitchen floor stays clean all winter.

Scope of work

  • Small side addition
  • Built-in painted cabinetry
  • Heated tile floor with drain
  • New insulated entry door
  • Exterior finishes to match
