Dashboard development means building one screen that shows the numbers your business runs on, pulled straight from the tools you already use. We also do internal tools development, including admin panels and custom CRMs. Those are dashboards where your team can change the data as well as read it.
If someone on your team spends Monday morning copying figures from three systems into a spreadsheet, a dashboard can do that job for them.
Where the data comes from
We connect to the tools your business already pays for:
- Spreadsheets in Google Sheets or Microsoft 365
- Accounting software such as QuickBooks Online and Xero
- CRMs such as HubSpot, Salesforce and Pipedrive
- Online stores on Shopify or WooCommerce
- Payments in Stripe or Square
- Your own database, or a web app we built for you
- CSV exports from older systems that have no API
The data is copied into one database on a schedule, often every hour or every night. Screens then load without waiting on each source tool. It lets you compare numbers from different tools, such as ad spend against sales. It also keeps history, even when a source tool deletes old records.
Charts, tables and reports
We start with decisions. Which decisions does each person make every week, and which numbers do they need to make them? Then we design the screens around those answers.
- Totals with a comparison to last week, last month or last year
- Trend charts by day, week or month
- Tables you can sort, filter and search
- Clicks from a total to the records behind it
- Scheduled reports by email, such as a Monday sales summary
- Alerts when a number crosses a limit, such as low stock or overdue invoices
The numbers must match your accounting. Before launch we check dashboard totals against the source tools, and we write down how each figure is calculated.
Roles and access
- Owners see everything.
- Managers see their own team, region or location.
- Staff see only what their job needs.
- Clients or partners see only their own account, if you give them a login.
Staff can log in with the Google or Microsoft account they already use at work. Access rules are checked on the server, so a person cannot reach data by changing a link.
Exporting
People will always want the data in a spreadsheet. Every table exports to CSV or Excel, with the current filters applied. Reports export to PDF for board meetings or clients. Year-end exports for your accountant can be set up as a single button.
Internal tools that replace manual steps
Many businesses run important work on a shared spreadsheet and a chain of emails. That works until two people edit the same row, or a step gets missed while someone is on holiday. Internal tools fix that. Common examples:
- An admin panel for your web app or store, to manage users, orders and refunds
- A job or order tracker with statuses and a named owner for each step
- An approval flow for quotes, expenses or time off
- A custom CRM with the fields and stages your process really uses.
- Forms that write straight into the database, with checks that stop bad data
Every change is logged with who made it and when. Admin panel development often comes with a new product, and our SaaS development page covers that case.
How we build it
We start with one screen for one team. We connect the data, check the numbers and put it in front of the people who will use it. Once that screen is trusted, we add the next one. Dashboards use the same stack as our other custom web apps, so a dashboard can later grow into a client portal or a full product. If you are testing a new product idea, MVP development is the better starting point.
